NEW Treehouses
Kids' Projects NEW WEBSITE |
We have enjoyed all your garden house/project books and consulted "Sheds" when we were planning our own shed. We especially appreciated the step by step instructions and clear drawings. We were still deliberating over plans when we saw "Rustic Retreats" in a book club ad and we ran all over greater Seattle looking for it. We must have bought the first copy in Washington. We proceeded to build the cover garden house, finishing the shingles this summer. It was originally intended to be a storage shed, but was so wonderful that we added chairs and a bed. We've used it as a guest house and as a napping spot. And we have a dream of sleeping out there some night when it's snowing. Our little house faces due west, so we put plexi in the gable on the south side, adding sun (when we get it) and a perfect perch from which our cat can watch the neighborhood. Thanks so much for your books. Docie Woodard and Linda Beal "The perfect builders guide. Straightforward instructions and
beautiful, informative drawings will help you build dozens of great
back-country shelters. Designs include sheds, arbors, lean-tos, huts,
cabins, tree houses and even a design for a floating cabin."
"For anyone with space enough, but without the money to build on it,
this book has so many answers. It has line drawings on every page and is
pure delight to read and dream over."
"The drawings are very detailed yet artful, the prose is kept simple
without unnecessary information. The authors leave ample room to improvise,
but you could certainly follow the instructions to the letter and finish up
with just what is described. The designs in this book are so varied you will
very likely find a structure that appeals to you. The building techniques
and materials described can be interchanged for most of the structures
described. I found myself flipping back and forth and was inspired to use
elements of multiple designs in just one structure. A very well done and
handsome book!"
"Not only interesting to read, but the drawings make the projects easy to
follow...This terrific book has inspired me to find the perfect piece of land
to build my own little vacation getaway."
"This book was written for people like us who dream of having a place off in
the woods, in a lake or a river, or even in their own backyard where they can
get away from the fast pace of the city and enjoy nature. It begins with
general info on how to build doors, hooks and windows using primarily hand
tools and goes on to describe how to build 21 different structures."
"Rustic Retreats: A Build-it-Yourself Guide by David and Jeanie Stiles,
offers asistance for those who dream of setting up housekeeping out in the
wild, snug inside their own Adirondack lean-to, ivy-covered hut, wigwam, or
garden pavilion."
